Here’s one more idea to add to your family nights at home: Host a build-your-own milkshake night, letting your little ones concoct a mile-high milkshake of their dreams (reminiscent of our dip-your-own-cone dessert night).

Allow their imaginations to run wild as they see how zany and tall their creations can get: Will it be a candy necklace wrapped around the glass, whole chocolate chip cookies lined up single file around a frosted rim, an entire doughnut straddling the straw, or a handful of cotton candy erupting from the top of the milkshake?

We love to pour our mile-high milkshakes into the tallest clear glasses we can find, like old-fashioned soda fountain glasses or sundae glasses, but any tall drinking glass will do. Take your milkshakes to new heights by using wooden skewers to stack and hold in place everything from brownies and fresh fruit to mini cupcakes.

One of our favorite aspects about this family activity is its fun comes in multiple parts, meaning you can not only have a blast blending the milkshakes and adding off-the-wall edible decorations, but you can make an event out of scouring the candy and baking aisles while grocery shopping with your kids.

Just remember: There are no rules when assembling these mega-shakes, as long as the ingredients are hand-picked by your kids and add to the over-the-top aesthetic. We’ve included ingredients for three of our favorite mile-high shakes, but let your kids mix and match and brainstorm their own combinations!
