Açaí (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is a powerful superfruit made popular by its beautiful color and incredible health benefits. Due to the perishable nature of the fruit, you won’t find fresh açaí in the United States. Instead, you should check the frozen fruit section, which is often conveniently located near the ice cream cone aisle!

We have included two easy recipes below. One is for the Instagram-worthy smoothie waffle bowl and the other for a frozen sorbet that is a delicious (and healthy) alternative to ice cream. The best part? The only difference in ingredients between the two is extra bananas in the sorbet. Use this as a base recipe and mix it up with other fruits to make it your own!

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets of frozen açaí puree
  • ½ banana for smoothie bowl, 2 whole bananas for sorbet
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey
  • Toppings (blueberries, sliced strawberries, banana slices, coconut flakes, granola, pomegranate seeds, raspberries, blackberries and edible flowers, whatever you want!)
  • Joy Cone Waffle Bowl or Cone

Smoothie Bowl Instructions

Total time: Approximately 5 minutes

Break up the açaí puree by hitting with a mallet or slapping against the counter. Blend all ingredients, stopping every so often to mix the sides in and break up any hard pieces.
Pour the smoothie into a Joy Cone Waffle Bowl and decorate with toppings.

Sorbet Instructions

Total time: Approximately 30 minutes

Peel and cut the bananas into thirds (creating a total of six sections) and freeze overnight.

Break up the açaí puree by hitting with a mallet or slapping against the counter. Blend all ingredients, stopping every so often to mix the sides in and break up the hard pieces.

Pour mixture into a loaf tin, top with baking parchment, and freeze for two to three hours or until hardened. When ready to serve, scoop into a Joy Cone Waffle Cone.
