Instagram Contest Winner: #MyJoyCone Creations
This month, we hosted an Instagram contest where participants were asked to share their Joy Cone recipe creations with the hashtag #MyJoyCone.
We loved seeing all your creative entries including fruit-filled Joy Cones, sorbets, cake pops, chocolate-coated ice cream characters, and homemade ice cream entries.
We’re so excited to share the contest winner! Drum roll, please…
Beth Klosterboer is a chocolatier, recipe developer, and party planner at Hungry Happenings. Hungry Happenings features fun food and edible crafts for holidays and special occasions.
Beth submitted five different Joy Cone creations to the #MyJoyCone contest, including Cookie Monster, a monkey, polar bears, a goldfish, and Minions! We chose Beth as the winner because her Joy Cone creations bring food to life.
We asked Beth a few questions to get to know the creator behind Hungry Happenings.
I scooped some homemade banana ice cream onto a blue Joy Cone and decorated it using modeling chocolate to look like a Minion. It’s one of the more detailed ice cream cone creations I have shared on my blog, but Minions are so popular, and my readers loved them.
My candy-making journey began at age 13 when I took my first chocolate-making class. I was hooked. After graduating college with a business degree, I opened my first retail confectionery store and spent my days developing recipes for products. It was then that I found my passion for creating food crafts. My customers loved my clever creations and fun party ideas, and soon, they were asking me to help plan their parties.
I love making treats decorated with modeling chocolate. I can transform a cupcake, cookie, cereal treat, cake, chocolate pretzel, and even an ice cream cone into something really cute using soft, sculptable chocolate.
One of my favorite things to do at my candy stores was to host candy making parties. I really enjoyed teaching others to make chocolate and cute treats. Candy-making is a joyful experience, and I love to make people happy with food. Being able to share my fun food ideas on my blog gives me the opportunity to share that joy with the world, which is a pretty amazing thing.
Food is my canvas. When I see something cute, like a Minion, I envision how I can craft it out of cake, chocolate, or ice cream. I choose popular characters that are simple enough to be recreated out of food. If I’m making a cake, I can add a lot of detail, but when making something like a decorated, chocolate-dipped pretzel or an ice cream cone, I have to keep it simple.
The most important thing is to have all your ingredients and tools in place before beginning to work on a project. I share tips and tricks on each of my recipe posts and provide very detailed step-by-step tutorials and videos so that my creations can be made at home.
Joy Cones taste great and are available in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. They are a wonderful canvas for a festively decorated treat.
