Easy Patriots Themed Tailgate Foods with Joy Cone

Easy Patriots Themed Tailgate Foods with Joy Cone

The 2018 New England Patriots preseason kicks off August 9 against the Washington Redskins. Are you ready?

Can you hear the howls of the crowd and piercing whistle of the first touchdown? We can, and we can almost taste the flavors of football already.

If you’re like us, summer training camp didn’t include time on the field. Instead, we found ourselves in the kitchen and in front of the grill. There were visions of lavish tailgate parties dancing through our heads. Then life intervened.

If you’ve had lobster roll dreams only to settle for frozen meatball reality, we’re here to help. We’ve put together ideas to help you whip up a tailgate party with ease. Your table will be ready and you’ll be able to cheer for the Patriots whether you have minutes or hours to prepare.

Eat Like Your Favorite Patriots

Fill your belly and feed your friends the favorite foods of football giants with a Joy Cone twist. We’ll help you see how to use your favorite Joy Cones to take the food and fun to another level this season.

When kickoff is scheduled for noon, we’ve got an idea to help you sleep a little later but still pull together a perfect at-home tailgate table. Channel your inner Tom Brady by laying out a table full of his favorite cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios in Joy waffle bowls! Add sliced strawberries and blueberries for more nutrition and a bowl full of team colors.

Fill carafes with your favorite milks, from almond and soy to skim and whole, and you’ll have the foundation for your breakfast. Remember not to fill the waffle bowls with milk until you’re ready to eat! If you leave the milk sitting too long the cereal will get all soggy and no one wants that.

You can also create an ice cream bar like the ones you find at wedding receptions, but with flavors that reflect your favorite players. If you’re an Odell Beckham Jr. fan, fill your sugar cone full of butter pecan ice cream. While you’re cheering for Rob Gronkowski, snag a scoop or two of cookies ‘n’ cream. Fill up the rest of your choices with New England favorites like maple walnut or coffee ice cream.

Since 2015, we’ve known that Coach Bill Belichick doesn’t get to the grocery store often, but that doesn’t mean he can’t work his way around a kitchen. He can make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich called the BBPBJ just the way his mom did.

Our twist on the BBPBJ is simple – grab a loaf of raisin bread, a box of cake cones, crunchy peanut butter, and your favorite jelly. Cut a slice of raisin bread to fit into the center of the cone. Slather a thick layer of peanut butter on both sides of the bread and slide it into the center of the cone. Then fill up the rest of the cone with jelly!

Quick and Delicious Small Bites

If you’ve got a great tailgate menu and you’re just missing some small bites, try looking for something New England or Patriots-themed.

For an idea on the healthier side, all you’ll need is a box of cones, some white melting chocolate, and a couple handfuls of fruit. Melt the white chocolate and dip the rim of the cone into it. Let the chocolate harden, putting it in the fridge if needed. Then, slice up strawberries and blueberries and fill up the dipped cones.

Chips and dip are always a popular staple at any tailgate. Try using a waffle bowl to serve up some beer and cheddar dip and find yourself with less trash to carry to the can at the end of the day. Serve it with some kettle cooked-style chips and you’ll be able to sit back and wait for the compliments.

Or you can soothe your aching sweet tooth with one of our favorite recipes – Boston Cream Pie Cones. This nod to a historical local favorite will leave smiles on the faces of your friends and family.

Joyful Main Dishes for the Win

Find your next favorite tailgating main course by trying one of our ideas. We took tailgating favorites and reimagined them with Joy Cones in mind.

Fried chicken lovers always have a favorite style. From chicken strips and buffalo wings to secret herbs and spices, choose your favorite and make chicken and waffle cones. Whether you’re making it from scratch or picking it up from a local Boston favorite, drop your favorite chicken into a waffle cone and drizzle with a local maple syrup. You’ll never look at chicken and waffles the same way again.

Can you really call it a tailgate menu if there isn’t any barbecue on the menu? We don’t think so. We suggest starting by crafting slow cooker pulled pork from your favorite recipe (like this one). Then buy or make your favorite coleslaw.

Set up your barbecue station with a box of sugar cones. Fill your cone two-thirds full of pulled pork and add the coleslaw to fill it up. Drizzle the top with your favorite style of sauce and watch your fellow Pats fans enjoy a favorite dish with new flair.

Running back James White told the world that macaroni and cheese was his favorite food at the end of the 2017 season. Use your grandma’s recipe, local New England cheese, or your favorite box from the grocery store to fill a sugar cone and top with bacon crumbles. For added flavor, garnish the cones with whole strips of bacon.
