JOB SUMMARY:

This posting is for a position which will oversee the raw (dough) end of the L5 operation. Under the direction of the Plant Manager and in conjunction with the Team Leader and Production Assistant, the Area Leader is responsible for overseeing their respective area throughout the shift and facilitating the shift turn-over with the oncoming Area Leader. Employees in this role must operate in accordance with plant and company policies and procedures and are required to have excellent attendance, a thorough understanding of all production and sanitation procedures, quality and food safety policies, and a comprehensive knowledge of all production positions within the area of responsibility. This position also works closely with Maintenance, Quality, Sanitation, and other Production personnel to troubleshoot problems while maintaining the efficient production of a safe, quality food.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support to the area of responsibility and act in a leadership capacity through a demonstrated knowledge/proficiency of all associated positions
  • Communicate effectively with all team members, including those outside of the area of responsibility, to provide direction and structure to production personnel
  • Serve in a leadership role to facilitate smooth and efficient operation in the area of responsibility
  • Provide feedback and report problems to the Team Leader, Production Assistant, and Plant Management
  • Aid in implementation of corrective and preventive action for identified problems
  • The Dough Area Leader will be responsible for covering breaks for the sheeter and mixer operator.
  • Coach new and current employees on company policies and standard operating procedures while providing individual training
  • Enforce Joy Cone’s GMP and Safety Policies
  • Conduct production, sanitation, and quality checks per procedure, report deviations to management as they occur, and take appropriate corrective action
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to properly prioritize work responsibilities within assigned work area
  • Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, which includes expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences
  • Must be willing to attend safety, food safety, sanitation, and/or leadership trainings as offered/assigned by supervisor
  • Responsible for adherence to all food safety & quality protocol
  • Required to understand and abide by all procedures pertaining to allergen control
  • Required to adhere to all Good Manufacturing Policies (GMPs)
  • Identify and accurately report defective materials, food safety hazards, and potential product contaminants
  • Able to read, analyze and follow directions
  • Must be able to speak, listen and openly communicate with team members and actively participate in team meetings
  • Able to apply formulas and mathematical concepts and to use them in a production setting
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw a valid conclusion
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
  • Stoop, kneel, climb or squat on an occasional basis
  • Possess manual dexterity & use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel on a frequent basis
  • Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis
  • Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
  • Must be able to work in a scissor lift at elevated heights occasionally

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of the following computer software: Microsoft Office, AS400
