JOB SUMMARY:
The Automation Engineer will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and maintenance of automated systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and productivity. This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions that will enhance overall performance at Joy Baking Group.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and implement automated systems and processes to meet project requirements
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, Safety, IT and Quality Assurance to implement and maintain automated solutions
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical specifications for automation solutions
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to automation
- Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation processes
- Write, test, and maintain code for automation scripts and programs
- Utilize programming languages and scripting tools to automate repetitive tasks and improve workflow efficiency
- Integrate automated systems with existing infrastructure and applications
- Conduct thorough testing of automated solutions to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with quality standards
- Identify and resolve issues related to automated systems promptly
- Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the continuous and smooth operation of automated processes
- Create comprehensive documentation for automation processes, including design, specifications, code documentation, and user manuals
- Keep documentation up-to-date as changes and updates are implemented
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be able to analyze and interpret technical information/mathematical concepts, form conclusions, and present complex information
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw a valid conclusion
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects to completion effectively
- Must be able to work both independently and as a part of an interdisciplinary team
- Must have the ability to problem solve and troubleshoot effectively
- Must be able to use automation tools and software
- Must be able to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing
- Must be able to have full use of arms and legs to climb stairs and ladders to access all areas of the plant and office
- Must be able to travel
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in automation engineering or a related role
- Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks
- Knowledge of industrial automation is a plus
- Experience with PLC programming is a plus
- Certification in automation or related field a plus
