Halloween Cake-Ball Cone Treats

Posted on November 22, 2020

Halloween is coming and that means it’s time for the traditional appearance of pumpkins, witches, and ghosts, and—even more importantly—the tradition of eating wonderful treats.

This year, with trick-or-treating possibly curtailed, it’s important to find ways for children to still have Halloween fun at home.

Thanks to Eliza of @learncraftgrow, who sent us the following recipe and photos, we have some spooky Halloween-themed treats that are fun to make and even more fun to eat!

Round up the whole family, collect all the ingredients, and join @joyconeco in celebrating the sweetest annual holiday.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 box each of @joyconeco Cake Cups and Chocolate Waffle Cones
  • Cake mix
  • Frosting
  • Candy melts
  • Edible googly eyes
  • Black icing tube
  • Black fondant
  • Candy corns

What to do:

STEP 1: Prepare a cake mix as per the instructions on the box and bake your cake! We used a chocolate cake mix!

STEP 2: Let the cake cool and then crumble it. You can do this with a food processor but we used our hands and the children loved it!

STEP 3: Mix the cake crumbs with frosting until a dough forms.

STEP 4:

Roll the dough into balls, place them on a tray and put them in the refrigerator for an hour.

STEP 5: Place candy melts in the microwave and heat until they are melted. We used white, orange and green. Dip the chilled cake balls into the candy melts. You can also drip the candy melt over the cake ball and use a spatula to spread it. Add edible googly eyes right after so they stick on.

STEP 6: Return to the baking sheet and refrigerate until hardened. Then, add remaining details such as icing and fondant hair for a witch.

STEP 7: Dip the JOY cones into the melted candy melts. Dip in green for the pumpkin. Dip in black for the ghost. Pipe purple onto the witch’s hat using a plastic zip bag.

STEP 8: Place the completed pumpkin and ghost cake balls into the JOY Cake Cones and place a JOY Chocolate Waffle Cone on top of the witch cake ball. ENJOY eating these yummy Halloween treats!
