JOB SUMMARY:

This person is responsible for leading the Le Mars, IA safety operations.  This position will coordinate the development, training, and enforcement of policies and procedures designed to maintain and improve upon employee safety. This will require a close working relationship with safety, production, traffic, HR, quality, and maintenance departments as well as an ability to handle complex issues such as: accident investigation, policy documentation, employee training, and corrective action support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and implement workplace health and safety plans and procedures
  • Evaluate health and safety practice and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines
  • Coordinate, conduct, and document required employee safety training.
  • Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions
  • Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies
  • Conduct accident and near miss investigations to find cause and take prevention measures for further incidents
  • Coordinate with HR on worker’s compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident
  • Research, present, and implement safety improvements.
  • Onsite safety committee secretary
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be able to climb stairs and access all areas of various manufacturing facilities
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Products
  • Must be able to travel occasionally

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Safety Management degree and certifications (GSP, CSP, GSM) strongly desired
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety laws and guidelines
  • 3+ years experience working in a safety management field required
  • Extensive attention to detail to distinguish safety hazards
  • Ability to provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures
  • Good understanding of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Good organizational, leadership and motivational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to recognize when safety conditions need improvement
  • Ability to prioritize tasks especially when handling an accident or incident
  • Must have demonstrated good work habits and attendance.
